Say Cheese – & Coffee! Local Favorite Lands at Sunport
“Java brews and bites take flight as sixth restaurant fills Sunport’s new food hall”
ALBUQUERQUE – A fresh taste is landing at the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) with the opening of Cheese & Coffee, a new dining destination bringing local flavor and elevated cuisine to travelers and locals alike. Operated by locally based Fresquez Concessions Inc., Cheese & Coffee – established in 1996 – brings award-winning comfort food, community-focused service, and local New Mexican flavor to airport travelers.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Cheese & Coffee to our lineup of local favorites,” said Aviation Director Richard McCurley. “As a Burque staple, Cheese & Coffee brings a taste of our community right into the terminal. Enhancing the passenger experience is a top priority at the Sunport, and this addition reflects our commitment to providing high-quality amenities and showcasing the best of our region.”
Originally a bulk cheese and coffee shop, the café—owned by Geri Blackmon and Anne Dosch—now serves handcrafted sandwiches, house-made soups, and fresh, made-from-scratch offerings. The brand-new concession will feature the Chelsea Sandwich (also known as the Holly Sandwich), Green Chile Chicken Soup, chef-inspired breakfast sandwiches, and pastries baked on site daily. Soups are sold by the bowl or in frozen gallon-sized containers for up to 12 hours of travel.
“The opening of Cheese & Coffee is just one more way the Sunport is growing with our city and serving up what makes Albuquerque special,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Cheese & Coffee is a longtime Keller family favorite – I recommend the Sicilian, but my Dad insists on the Big Apple.”
Cheese & Coffee is known for fresh ingredients and scratch-made recipes. Signature soups like the Southwest Green Chile Chicken Soup and Red Chile Chicken Posole have earned “Best of the City” honors and a place in the Albuquerque Magazine Hall of Fame. Store walls feature community awards, local regulars, and signed photographs of champion fighter and local legend Holly Holm, a frequent guest.
“Cheese & Coffee embodies the spirit of Albuquerque,” said Fresquez Concessions Inc. President LeeAnna Fresquez. “Their legacy of quality, hospitality, and loyal following makes them a perfect fit for the Sunport.”
