More Routes for Balloon Fiesta: American Airlines Adds Nonstop Flights from Charlotte and Philadelphia
“Expanded service connects East Coast travelers to biggest celebration in the Southwest”
ALBUQUERQUE — Fresh off its recognition as the nation’s seventh-best airport by The Washington Post, the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is reaching new heights with more exciting news. In honor of the 2025 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, American Airlines will add special nonstop service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The airline will operate six roundtrip flights from each city on key dates during the Fiesta, providing East Coast travelers with convenient new options to experience the magic of hundreds of balloons lifting off against the desert sunrise.
These additional flights will operate October 3, 4, 5, 10, 12, and 13. Each will deploy a Boeing 737-800, offering 172 seats per flight. This year’s Balloon Fiesta is October 4-12 at Balloon Fiesta Park.
“The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta brings visitors from across the globe to our gem of a city,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “We’re excited to see American Airlines stepping up to meet that demand with expanded service from key East Coast spots. This is a big win for our tourism economy and a testament to Albuquerque’s growing appeal as a travel destination.”
Just last month, Delta Airlines announced new seasonal nonstop service to ABQ from Detroit and Seattle for Balloon Fiesta. With today’s additions from American Airlines — and United Airlines’ recent launch of daily nonstop service from Washington Dulles (IAD) — the Sunport continues to solidify its role as a premier gateway to one of the nation’s most celebrated annual events. Travelers are encouraged to book early, as demand during the Fiesta remains sky-high.
“We’re thrilled to see American Airlines increase its service for one of the world’s most iconic aviation events,” said Aviation Director Richard McCurley. “These added flights will help meet the tremendous demand we experience each October and make it easier for guests nationwide to join one of our state’s most celebrated traditions. We are also grateful to Visit Albuquerque, Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, and New Mexico True for their partnership and helping to promote Albuquerque tourism and beyond.”
