American Airlines Begins New Non-Stop Service to Austin

Today, American Airlines starts new daily, non-stop service between the Albuquerque International Sunport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. This is the second daily service and third airline offering direct service between the two cities, and a promising signal of the Sunport’s continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This new service is an exciting indication of Albuquerque’s continued growth and recovery from the pandemic,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Albuquerque is proving itself to be an increasingly sought-after destination, and new flights only strengthen our city’s connection to the world.”

“Increasing mobility to and from Albuquerque through convenient air travel options is a key priority of our Aviation Department, and we can see the work paying off,” said City Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Rael. “We look forward to the opportunities and access that this flight will create.”

This additional option between Albuquerque and Austin is a direct response to increased consumer demand both locally at the Sunport and nation-wide. In an effort to bolster air service offerings to New Mexico, the City of Albuquerque’s Aviation department included Austin in its highly-targeted out of market advertising campaign focused on several key markets to help increase number of available
seats and consumer demand.

“Our newest service to Austin is a promising sign of Albuquerque’s growing presence as a business and tourism destination,” said Richard McCurley, Interim Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “This is a key step in our journey to continue recovering from the pandemic and also meet the increasing demand for a return to normal travel operations.”

The flight will be operated by American’s regional carrier Envoy Airlines. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at AA.com.
