Newest commercial airline makes for a total of eight major carriers at Sunport

ALBUQUERQUE — Today, the Albuquerque International Sunport announced the addition of Sun Country Airlines to the Land of Enchantment, adding seasonal, twice-weekly nonstop service between ABQ and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) beginning in June of 2024. Sun Country Airlines announced its new Albuquerque route today as part of the airline’s expanded service to eight other domestic cities as well as two Canadian destinations.

“We are pleased to partner with Sun Country Airlines to offer even more travel options for New Mexicans,” said Richard McCurley, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “This alliance could not have come at a better time as we undergo a major terminal renovation, modernize the Sunport and take the passenger experience to the next level. We look forward to welcoming travelers from the Heartland of America and working with our partners at Sun Country Airlines for years to come.”

“Sun Country prides itself on being the leisure airline of choice for MSP customers,” said Grant Whitney, senior vice president and chief revenue officer for Sun Country. “We have more than doubled our nonstop destinations for customers flying out of MSP in the last five years and we are thrilled to offer these unique new offerings spanning the continent from Quebec to New Mexico.”

The addition of Sun Country brings another ultra low cost carrier to the Sunport and offers an additional choice for leisure travelers between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Albuquerque.

“We’re happy to welcome Sun Country to the Sunport and provide another affordable travel option for families coming in and out of Albuquerque,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Together, we’re keeping our city connected and creating new opportunities for jobs and tourism.”
