Local Businesses Invited to Learn More About New Retail Offerings at Reimagined Sunport
Virtual event will provide insight about partnership opportunities to help bring new Sunport to life.
ALBUQUERQUE — One year after starting work on its major terminal renovation, “Dream of Flight,” the Albuquerque International Sunport is being reimagined to feature more New Mexican businesses and creators. The renovation project includes a complete concessions redevelopment, and will feature new and expanded retail spaces in addition to refreshed food and beverage options. The Sunport has been actively engaging with the community to raise awareness of the concessions redevelopment project, launching a new Doing Business website last December and recently awarding new food and beverage concessionaires.
Now, the Sunport is shifting its attention to retail. Prior to releasing a Retail Concessionaire Request for Proposals (RFP), the Sunport will host an informational webinar for retail business owners interested in operating at the Sunport. The info session is set for Friday, Dec. 1 at 10:00 am MT. Registration is not required. The RFP is expected to be released in December 2023 through the City of Albuquerque’s online solicitation platform, Bonfire.
“As the ‘Dream of Flight’ renovation project continues to unfold, we are asking the New Mexico business community to join us in revamping our concessions offerings through this unique retail opportunity, which will further elevate the passenger experience,” said Manny Manriquez, Aviation Department Innovation and Commercial Development Manager. “Local businesses are the heart of our community, and will be at the center of the reimagined Sunport to welcome folks to New Mexico.”
Very small retail businesses, especially artisans, makers, and other sole-proprietors, will not be left out of the mix. The Sunport will also be launching a retail kiosk program in early 2024 to create a vibrant and diverse shopping experience in the terminal. More information about that program, including related business development assistance, will be announced in January 2024.
