Five New Sculptures by New Mexico Artists Installed at Sunport
New installations add to the Sunport’s growing national recognition
for its public art and traveler experience
ALBUQUERQUE — The Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) has completed the installation of five new sculptures by New Mexico artists along the terminal’s Arrivals curbside, adding new works of art to one of the first places travelers experience when they arrive in Albuquerque. The five sculptures, acquired through Phase III of the Sunport’s Reimagined Public Art Program, were officially unveiled today, with the artists and Sunport leadership in attendance.
“It’s no surprise the Sunport was recently named one of the nation’s best airports for art in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “These five new sculptures add to that creative spirit, showcasing New Mexico’s incredible talent and giving the millions of travelers who pass through the Sunport each year an even more memorable welcome.”

“Every traveler has a different experience when they arrive at the Sunport, and these sculptures add something unexpected to that first impression,” said Director of Aviation Manny Manriquez. “Bringing these five works to the arrivals curbside gives travelers a chance to encounter the talent of New Mexico artists before they even leave the airport.”
The five sculptures were selected through an open call for existing outdoor works created by New Mexican artists. The project is the third phase of the Sunport’s Reimagined Public Art Program, which continues to expand the airport’s collection while creating opportunities to showcase the state’s creative community.
“Historically, the Arrivals curbside has served its purpose as a waiting area and hub for ground transportation,” said Customer Experience Manager Jonathan Small. “We saw an opportunity to enhance that experience by showcasing beautiful art from five distinct New Mexican perspectives.”
